Easter Egg Hunt

OEaster Bunny (7)n Friday as our third term at school drew to a close we went on a fun filled egg hunt. The children had to search throughout the school both inside and out for eggs with clues hidden inside. Even the parents association helped out with reading some clues! We had lots of fun and when all the clues were found the children returned to the classroom for an ice-cream party!!!! 🙂

Push and Pull

Yesterday, we had a chat about the forces of pushing and pulling. The children investigated the different things we could push and pull within our classroom. They children were all great investigators and came up with great examples such as pushing and pulling the door, pulling the blinds to lift them up and then pushing the window out to open it. We watched this fun video and sang along.

Art Exhibition

Last night Scoil Carmel had its annual art exhibition between 7pm and 9pm. It was wonderful to see all the hard work both the teachers and children put into their individual classroom displays. If anyone missed out here are some pictures of our room.

Arts Week

We had a great start to Arts Week last Friday with Dave who brought in lots of djembe drums for the children to play. When we first entered the PE hall, Ms. Greene was in playing drums with her class. We got to dance to the music and it was so much fun. When Ms. Greene and her class left, Dave showed all the different sounds we can make with a djembe drum. Michael even joined in with us!!!!! 🙂

Then today Tuesday the 24th March we got to sample some African dancing. We are having so much fun in the lead up to the Easter holidays. 🙂

We Have Sprung Into Spring

Yesterday was a glorious Spring day in Scoil Carmel. Here in room 18 we got a lovely treat from Ms. Brennan. Ms. Brennan brought us on a “Spring Walk” around the school grounds to see all the spring flowers beginning to grow and even flower in some cases. We saw daffodils, snowdrops, hyacinths, crocuses, and tuilps. We had a lovely time. Thank you Ms. Brennan. 🙂

Day and Night

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Today in school we had a chat about daytime and night time and what causes both. Some of the children informed Ms. Nugent that its day time in some countries and at the same time it is night time in a different country at the other side of the world.

Ms. Nugent explained to the boys and girls that the world moves around the sun and at the same time the world spins very slowly like a football. The children also learned that the moon has no light but  rather the suns light reflects off the moon at night. To conclude the lesson the children worked in their table groups sorting out things we do during the day and things we do at night. Tomorrow, the children will create pictures of a lighthouse at night and during the day to compare the difference.

Click here to watch a video explaining this. (parts of this video will be difficult for the children to understand)

Batmobile

Snapchat-20150305110310Last year Noel called his special chair “The Ferrari”. This year we decided it was time for  a change and the class came up with new names for Noels chair. The children had very good ideas and Noel decided that he was going to rename his chair the “BATMOBILE”.

To coincide with this new name Ms. Nugent gave his chair a face lift and when Noel came into school this morning the “BATMOBILE” was ready for action!!!! 🙂
